The Bay islands population has grown by almost 30% in the last three years. Both local and state governments have failed islanders in their lack of planning and development of infrastructure to meet our needs.
None so evident as the lack of supply of parking spaces ,at Russell Island, Macleay Island and the Redland Bay ferry terminals .
This problem needed to be addressed well before now, both local and state governments have chosen to sweep it under the carpet.
With a growing population and fewer parking spaces being available due to the development of Weinam Creek residential and commercial precinct, we are getting parking fines from either council or police as it is often impossible to get a ‘legal’ park within a reasonable walking distance of the terminals.
We believe these fines to be unfair and unconscionable so we say that until this problem is solved, that no more parking fines should be issued.
