“Our Parking Spots group” published a flyer on 20 February headlined: “We Are Screwed”, stating that they have been unsuccessful in their endeavour to obtain the required focus for adequate parking for Islanders on the mainland as “ islanders seem of little consequence”.
According to the council’s Corporate plan for 2026, their “Liveable Neighbourhoods Objective” is to increase community use of ‘active transport’ and achieve this in “behaviour change programs”.
What are some of these “behaviour change programs”?
Is it reducing the number of public car spaces at Redland Bay Marina to allocate to a private car share company. Is the “behaviour change” to limit the choices that islanders can make in where and how we work, how we live and where we live?
Is reducing our access to parking on the mainland and diligently issuing infringements to people for parking in any available spots for longer periods (e.g 4 hour parking spots ) when they come home from work, and the increase in invasive surveillance cameras under the guise of “safety and security” part of the “behaviour change programs”?.
Have any members of this community been consulted on ‘behaviour change programs” before it found its way in the Corporate Plan?
We should all be calling council for a please explain – “ behaviour change programs
